Simpson Door Company has been our wood door partner for over twenty years. We are proud to present a relatively new product in its Nantucket Collection. This is the real deal made from two high-performing wood species- Black Locust and Nootka Cypress. These doors are made with mortise and tenon joinery with face driven wood pins. A great look with a 10-year warranty. This unbeatable Simpson Door is available at Nashville Sash & Door.
What is REX Wrap?
REX Wrap is a tear-resistant woven and coated polyproplyene, weather-resistant barrier that provides air and moisture protection. It has a perm rating of 8 (optimal is between 4-16). REX Wrap is so easy to install that you can use a staple gun. REX Wrap is 5.5 mil thick and REX Wrap Plus is 6.5 mil thick.
Another key feature offered at no upcharge is you can have your logo printed (in two colors) on the wrap. The logo is placed at the top of the roll as opposed to the middle so that when the openings are cut, your logo is still visible. There is no initial start-up fee for logo imprints!
Have you considered a “flanged brickmould”?
At Nashville Sash & Door, we are always on the lookout for the next big thing in energy efficiency, ease of installation and a traditional look.
Introducing the flanged or J-channel brickmould! After installation, this product looks like a standard 2″, WM180 brick mould. However, this rot-free brick mould is designed with a built in nailing flange and a J-channel for a “finished look” in which the exterior siding fits. When using this product, you can nail through the flange and have a “tape” surface for a watertight, energy efficient installation.
Here is the
J-channel brickmould profile:

Nashville Sash & Door wants to be your door supplier. We have the largest selection of doors on display in the mid-state area. Come in and see if you can tell the difference between a stained Therma-Tru and the wood equivalent.

How is your Column Knowledge?
Did you know that there are Five Orders of Architecture when it comes to columns?
The Greek Doric Order is the oldest, simplest and sturdiest of the five Classical Orders. Distinguishing characteristics of the Doric Order are that it has no base or plinth and that it is thicker than an Ionic or a Corinthian column of the same height. The columns of the Parthenon are of the Greek Doric Order.
The Ionic Order has twenty-four flutes or vertical grooves that emphasize its height. The volutes (stone spirals) are the most distinctive features of these columns. The columns of the Erechtheum, a temple on the Acropolis, are of the Ionic Order.
The Corinthian Order is distinguished by the tall inverted bell-shaped capital that is decorated with carved acanthus leaves and small volutes. Almost all of the buildings erected by the Romans employ this Order. The columns of the Monument of Lysicrates and the Olympieion in Athens are of the Corinthian Order.
The Tuscan Order is noted for its simplicity and is an adaptation of the Doric. The columns of the Temple of Piety in Rome and the Lower Order of the Amphitheater at Arles are of the Tuscan Order.
The Composite Order is a heavier Corinthian column and its capital is an ornate combination of the Ionic and the Corinthian. The Composite capital and a Corinthian entablature are used in the Arch of Titus in Rome.
Here is a tidbit that will come in handy while playing Trivial Pursuit:
The columns of Parthenon taper on a slight arc as they reach the top of the building giving the impression that they are swollen from entasis (tension) – as if they were burdened by the weight of the roof.
We are The Column Experts – please contact us for any column needs.
Have you thought about “scant mouldings”?
Some of the more popular moulding patterns are available in “scant” or smaller than standard sizes. Call or stop by to inquire about scant profiles that are available.
Need to match old, small runs of moulding?
Try Nashville Sash for small runs of historical mouldings. We have oak (red and white), maple and poplar readily available. If you need a different species, we can get it.
We are able to match old profiles. Bring us a small piece of what you need to match and we can make it happen.
A New Exterior Trim System
Over the years, we have seen a lot of ways to put trim around windows, but none as easy as Andersen’s new Exterior Trim System. This innovative system is quick to install and comes in eleven factory-matched colors with three different profiles. All of these new profiles come with an architecturally correct sill nose. There is also a “correct” drip cap available.
The best part? It can be installed in five minutes.
What is a Customer?
1. A Customer is the most important person in any business
2. A Customer is not dependent on us, we are dependent on them.
3. A Customer is not an interruption of our work, they are the purpose of it.
4. A Customer does us a favor when they call, we are not doing them a favor by serving them.
5. A Customer is part of our business, not an outsider
6. A Customer is not a cold statistic, they are flesh and blood human beings with feelings and emotions like our own
7. A Customer is not someone to argue or match wits with.
8. A Customer is a person who brings us their wants, it is our job to fill those wants
9. A Customer is deserving of the most courteous and attentive treatment we can give them.
10. A Customer is the person who makes it possible to pay our salary, whether we are a truck driver, plant employee, office employee, salesperson or manager.
11. A Customer is the life-blood of this and every business.

Don’t Forget the Shims
Don’t Forget the Shims:
The trend lately in the construction industry seems to be one that has forgotten the value and benefit of shims when installing windows and doors.
Each of our shims is approximately 15” long, 1½” wide and taper from 3/8” thickness down to nil. They come bundled in quantities of 90-96 shims. Each bundle weighs about 5 pounds and retails for only $5.25 at a cost of much less than $1.00 per opening. Its amazing how such a small investment in shims can extend the life of every window and door.
Shims are designed to take up the space between your rough opening and the outside of your jamb. Start by centering the frame in the opening. Shim all four corners first making sure the jamb is plumb and square. If you are installing a doorframe, shim behind each placement then shim equal distance on the other side. For a window frame, shim both sides of the middle of the frame then equal distance from top to bottom. Use shims in pairs to keep the jamb parallel to the face of the opening.
The following diagrams illustrate the proper placement of shims. Installing windows and doors properly with shims is vital to their longevity. Without shims, windows and doors are susceptible to movement should the structure “settle”.

How To Hand A Door
HOW TO HAND A DOOR:
The “Nose to Hinge Pin Method”
One of the simplest parts of the millwork business can also be the most confusing. This will illustrate how to “hand” a door, so that when you place an order with us you will be assured we are using the same method.
As seen in these illustrations, handing a door is always done as you pull the door to you. We will explain the easiest way to remember this technique.
Imagine touching your nose to the hinge pin. In this manner, you are always on the “correct” side of the door. Then, imagine your hand grabbing the knob of the door and pulling it towards yourself. Whichever hand you grab the doorknob with, that is the “hand” of the door.
Special Note: For exterior doors that need to open out, hand the door as described about with the special denotation, “open out”.
